Joan, que passou 40 anos ignorando seus talentos literários para valorizar a carreira do marido, decide abandoná-lo.

O documentário mostra a vida de mulheres que trabalham arriscando as suas próprias vidas. Elas mergulham enquanto a luz do meio-dia se infiltra pelos mares do Japão. Ao encher os pulmões de ar, elas se aventuram no fundo do mar em busca de ostras, algas e pérolas. Uma tarefa que acontece no Japão há mais de 2000 anos.
