Uma semana antes do lançamento do remake de Sete Homens e um Destino, resolvi fazer um aquecimento assistindo ao filme original (presente no catálogo abençoado da Netflix), que por sua vez nem é tão original assim já que foi produzido com base no japonês Os Sete Samurais. Curiosidade à parte, o hollywoodiano de 1960, protagonizado por estrelas da época como Steve McQueen, Yul Brynner e Charles Bronson, quando visto através dos olhos de hoje rende momentos divertidos, devido a pouca veracidade da ação e as atuações meio robóticas, o que imediatamente abre uma brecha para que atualmente possa se entregar algo mais denso. Além disso, o antigo carrega consigo uma história peculiar de luta e vingança do mais fraco contra o mais forte. Pois bem, adaptado de maneira incrível para o mundo contemporâneo, o novo Sete Homens e um Destino mantêm a essência do passado, só que bem mais engenhoso e luxuoso em sua narrativa consegue resgatar o esquecido velho oeste.
Na refilmagem, os moradores de um pequeno vilarejo sofrem com os abusos de poder de Bartholomew Bogue (Sarsgaard), um vilão com ares de terrorista que junto com seus homens esbanja crueldade e mantém as pessoas sob o medo constante. Cansada da presença dele e sedenta por vingança, a camponesa Emma Cullen (Bennett) resolve tomar uma atitude e parte em busca de ajuda. No caminho, encontra, por acaso, um caçador de recompensas chamado Chilsom (Washington) e faz a ele uma proposta para defender o povoado. Hesitando no início, o homem logo toma as dores para si, mas para enfrentar o exército de Bogue, precisa reunir outros caras dotados de habilidades para contribuir com ele. Faraday (Pratt), Goodnight Robicheuax (Hawke), Billy Rocks (Lee), Jack Horne (D’Onofrio), Vasquez (Garcia-Rulfo) e Red Harvest (Sensmeier) formam os sete homens armados, movidos por algum tipo de sentimento, que terão a missão de lutar contra a Diligência Bogue e afastá-los de vez do vilarejo.
Mantidas algumas semelhanças com o predecessor, o roteiro escrito por Nic Pizzolato (a mente por trás de True Detective), propõe mudanças que vão além dos nomes, a começar pela composição dos sete cavaleiros. Enquanto o original presava pelo mistério dos personagens com relação a origem deles, o remake se mostra mais claro nesse ponto. Ao longo da trama é fácil perceber que todos eles guardam lembranças de um passado triste, revelado pela impossibilidade de constituir uma família, a perda de entes queridos ou até mesmo traumas de guerra. Essa escolha por evidenciar tais questões faz com que os novos protagonista sejam mais do que meros caçadores de recompensas ‘contratados’ em favor de uma causa nobre. As motivações tornam-se ainda mais verossímeis e o envolvimento deles com aqueles por quem lutam termina sendo uma relação plausível, fator que confere uma naturalidade no desenvolvimento do começo ao fim, e evita que narrativa cai em clichês para um conveniente desfecho.
Outro ponto que imprimi mais veracidade a narrativa é a maneira como os sete se firmam como companheiros. A reunião entre eles soa muito mais orgânica. Alguns se conhecem, afinal, no universo do faroeste todos já ‘ouviram falar’ do cara bom em algum coisa, e outros são escolhidos devido a coincidências críveis. Sete Homens e um Destino conta ainda com uma direção segura de Antoine Fuqua (Dia de Treinamento, 2001), que sabe captar o coração dos bons filmes de western com o uso recorrente do plano americano e os closes fulminantes nos personagens, que embalados pela trilha sonora quase convencional, revelam a tensão onipresente em cada ambiente e situação. Acompanhando o ótimo trabalho executado por Fuqua, a montagem super ágil reforça as habilidades de cada membro do conjunto, reproduzindo uma urgência necessária para os duelos épicos entre centenas de pistoleiros. A narrativa não para um minuto sequer, as atuações são de tirar o chapéu e a conclusão ganha tons épicos.
