Divinas Divas, filme que marca a estreia de Leandra Leal como diretora em longas-metragens, estreia hoje. O longa ganhou o Prêmio de Melhor Documentário pelo voto popular e foi eleito Melhor Documentário pelo Prêmio Felix (voltado para produções com temáticas relativas à diversidade de gênero) no Festival do Rio 2016, o Prêmio do Público da Mostra Global do Festival South by Southwest, em Austin, no Texas e Melhor Filme pelo Júri Popular e Melhor Direção no 11º Fest Aruanda do Audiovisual Brasileiro, em João Pessoa.

O longa também participou do Hot Docs (Festival Internacional de Documentários do Canadá), em Toronto, da Mostra de Cinema de Tiradentes, da 40ª Mostra Internacional de Cinema e do Festival Mix Brasil, em São Paulo. A produção é da Daza Filmes, em coprodução com Biônica Filmes e Canal Brasil. A distribuição será feita pela Vitrine Filmes, através do projeto Sessão Vitrine Petrobras.
Divinas Divas apresenta a trajetória de Rogéria, Jane Di Castro, Divina Valéria, Camille K, Fujika de Halliday, Eloína dos Leopardos, Marquesa e Brigitte de Búzios. A partir de uma íntima relação com a diretora e com o teatro de sua família, acompanhamos as personagens no processo de construção de um espetáculo que celebra seus 50 anos de carreira. O filme propõe a compreensão de suas vidas como obras de arte e como ato político no Brasil de ontem e de hoje. Para a diretora “esse tema fala sobre o que me constitui, sobre a minha história, sobre a minha família. E, ao mesmo tempo, pela relação que tinha com elas, sempre acreditei que só eu poderia fazer esse filme”.

As Divinas Divas são ícones da primeira geração de artistas travestis no Brasil dos anos 1960. Um dos primeiros palcos a abrigar homens vestidos de mulher foi o Teatro Rival, dirigido por Américo Leal, avô da diretora.
