CCBB São Paulo inaugura a exposição Vaivém com mais de 300 obras dos séculos 16 ao 21

Com curadoria de Raphael Fonseca, a mostra ocupa todo o edifício e destaca também a participação de mais de 30 artistas contemporâneos indígenas

O Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil São Paulo inaugura nesta quarta-feira (22) a exposição Vaivém, apresentando as redes de dormir nas artes e na cultura visual no Brasil. Com mais de 300 obras dos séculos 16 ao 21 e a participação de 141 artistas – entre eles, 32 indígenas –, a mostra tem curadoria de Raphael Fonseca, crítico, historiador da arte e curador do MAC-Niterói.

“Longe de reforçar os estereótipos da tropicalidade, esta exposição investiga as origens das redes e suas representações iconográficas: ao revisitar o passado conseguimos compreender como um fazer ancestral criado pelos povos ameríndios foi apropriado pelos europeus e, mais de cinco séculos após a invasão das Américas, ocupa um lugar de destaque no panteão que constitui a noção de uma identidade brasileira”, afirma o curador, que pesquisou o tema por mais de quatro anos para sua tese de doutorado em uma universidade pública.

Com pinturas, esculturas, instalações, fotografias, vídeos, documentos, intervenções e performances, além de objetos de cultura visual, como HQs e selos, Vaivém ocupa todos os espaços expositivos do CCBB São Paulo, do subsolo ao quarto andar, e está estruturada em seis núcleos temáticos e transhistóricos.

PERCORRENDO A EXPOSIÇÃO

Vaivém tem início com Resistências e permanências, que é apresentado no subsolo do edifício e mostra as redes como símbolo e objeto onipresente da cultura dos povos originários do Brasil. “Mesmo com séculos de colonização e até com as recentes crises políticas quanto aos direitos indígenas, elas se perpetuaram como uma das muitas tecnologias ameríndias”, diz Fonseca.

Neste núcleo, a maioria das obras é produzida por artistas contemporâneos indígenas, como Arissana Pataxó. No vídeo inédito Rede de Tucum, ela documenta Takwara Pataxó, a Dona Nega, única mulher da Reserva da Jaqueira, em Porto Seguro (BA), que ainda guarda o conhecimento sobre a produção das antigas redes de dormir Pataxó, feitas com fibras extraídas das folhas da palmeira Tucum.

Carmézia Emiliano começou a pintar de maneira autodidata em Roraima. Se tornou conhecida por telas que registram o cotidiano dos indígenas Macuxi, muitas protagonizadas por mulheres, e terá expostas pinturas feitas especialmente para o projeto, além de obras mais antigas. Também da etnia Macuxi, Jaider Esbell criou para a mostra a instalação A capitiana conta a nossa história. A uma rede de couro de boi estão presos um texto de autoria do artista e uma publicação com documentos sobre as discussões em torno das áreas indígenas de seu estado.

Outro destaque é Yermollay Caripoune, que, vivendo na região do Oiapoque, entre a aldeia e a cidade, participou de poucas exposições fora do Amapá. Na série de seis desenhos que desenvolveu para Vaivém, o artista apresenta a narrativa dos Karipuna sobre a origem das redes de dormir.

O núcleo reúne ainda trabalhos de grandes nomes da arte brasileira, como fotografias dos artistas e ativistas das causas indígenas Bené Fonteles e Cláudia Andujar, e o objeto de Bispo do Rosário Rede de Socorro, uma pequena rede de tecido onde se lê o título da obra.

O segundo núcleo da exposição, A rede como escultura, a escultura como rede, tem trabalhos que mostram redes de dormir a partir da linguagem escultórica e que estão distribuídos por diferentes espaços do CCBB São Paulo, a começar pelo hall de entrada. Rede Social é uma instalação interativa do coletivo Opavivará!, com uma rede gigante que convida o público a se deitar e balançar ao som de chocalhos.

Estão neste núcleo trabalhos do jovem artista Gustavo Caboco, de Curitiba e filho de mãe indígena, e Sallissa Rosa, nascida em Goiânia e filha de pai indígena. Ele apresenta uma série de gravuras em que discute seu pertencimento e não-pertencimento às culturas ameríndias no Brasil. Ela, um vídeo criado a partir de selfies enviadas por mulheres em redes de dormir, que revela uma visão complexa sobre o lugar da mulher indígena na sociedade contemporânea brasileira.

No segundo andar do edifício estão dois núcleos. Olhar para o outro, olhar para si traz documentos e trabalhos de artistas históricos e viajantes, como Hans Staden, Jean-Baptiste Debret e Johann Moritz Rugendas, que registraram os aspectos da vida no Brasil durante a colonização. Ao lado deles, artistas contemporâneos indígenas foram convidados a desconstruir o olhar eurocêntrico dessas imagens a respeito de seus antepassados e propor novas narrativas.

Entre eles, dois do Amazonas: a pintora Duhigó Tukano, que apresenta a inédita acrílica Nepũ Arquepũ (Rede Macaco), sobre o ritual de nascimento de um bebê Tukano, e Dhiani Pa’saro, ainda pouco conhecido fora de seu estado natal, que expõe a marchetaria Wũnũ Phunô (Rede Preguiça), composta por 33 tipos de madeira e inspirada em duas variações de grafismos indígenas: o “casco de besouro” (Wanano) e o “asa de borboleta” (Ticuna).

O coletivo MAHKU (Movimento dos Artistas Huni Kuin), do Acré, criou para o CCBB São Paulo uma pintura mural que faz referência ao canto Yube Nawa Aibu, entoado para trazer força e abrir os caminhos em cerimônias tradicionais. Já Denilson Baniwá, nascido no Amazonas e residente no Rio de Janeiro, fez intervenções digitais e físicas sobre obras de artistas brancos que retrataram povos indígenas.

Em Disseminações: entre o público e o privado as redes surgem em atividades do cotidiano do Brasil colonial, como mobiliário, meio de transporte e práticas funerárias. Um dos destaques é Dalton Paula, artista afro-brasileiro de Goiás, que lança em suas pinturas um olhar sobre as narrativas a respeito da negritude no Brasil desde a colonização.

Os lugares que as redes ocupam na vida contemporânea no Brasil, em especial na região Norte, também estão pontuados nesse núcleo. Fotografias de Luiz Braga, por exemplo, exibem redes de dormir em cenas do dia-a-dia no Pará.

No terceiro andar do CCBB São Paulo, Modernidades: espaços para a preguiça, a rede passa a ser associada à preguiça, à estafa e ao descanso decorrentes do encontro entre o trabalho braçal e o calor tropical. O ponto central é ocupado por “Macunaíma” (1929), livro de Mário de Andrade. O personagem que passa grande parte da história deitado em uma rede está em obras de diferentes linguagens.

Carybé foi o primeiro artista a fazer ilustrações de Macunaíma. Um desenho pouco exibido de Tarsila do Amaral mostra o Batizado de Macunaíma. Joaquim Pedro de Andrade dirigiu o longa-metragem que, estrelado por Grande Otelo, completa 50 anos em 2019, e os cartunistas Angelo Abu e Dan X adaptaram a história em quadrinhos.

No quarto andar está o núcleo Invenções do Nordeste. Nele foram reunidas obras que transformam em imagens mitos a respeito da relação entre as redes e esta região do país, além de trabalhos em que elas surgem como símbolo de orgulho local e de sua potente indústria têxtil. Destaque para uma série de fotografias de Maurren Bisilliat pelo sertão nordestino e as cerâmicas de Mestre Vitalino que retratam grupos de pessoas enterrando entes dentro de redes.

Também no último andar do edifício, uma homenagem a Tunga. O artista que inaugurou o CCBB São Paulo, em abril de 2001, retorna à instituição 18 anos depois. A instalação Bells Falls ganha uma nova versão e é apresentada ao lado dos registros fotográficos da performance “100 Rede”, realizada em 1997 na Avenida Paulista.
